BRC encourages same gender loving and gender diverse persons to sign up for health coverage during CMS LGBTQ+ Open Enrollment Theme Week

Easing the shortage of black doctors | South Florida Times

The BRC understands that physical and mental health are precious. Let’s take care of these gifts with the care available to us. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) LGBTQ+ Theme Week (Nov. 28 – Dec. 4) is during the Open Enrollment period for individual health care plans today, encouraging LGBTQ+ persons to sign up for health insurance. The week is dedicated to educating the LGBTQ+ community about the Open Enrollment period, which runs until January 15, 2022, and encouraging community members who do not have health insurance to enroll in one for the coming year.

Because LGBTQ+ people are less likely than non-LGBTQ+ people to have health insurance, the Center’s targeted outreach week serves as a timely and important reminder for community members to sign up for health insurance. Access to affordable health insurance not only improves access to care, but it can also help to reduce health inequities in the LGBTQ+ population by making crucial preventative care more available. “A disproportionate amount of LGBTQ+ persons in the United States are uninsured – the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Service’s LGBTQ+ theme week serves as a reminder to the community that it’s time to enroll in a plan, which for most people is affordable.”
